Y de esta manera también Argentina se recuperó de las derrotas sufridas por otras componentes de este seleccionado en las finales de los dos mundiales anteriores en las que las holandesas se consagraron campeonas mundiales, en 2009 en Boston, Estados Unidos, y en 2013 en Monchengladbach, Alemania.
Además la delantera de Santa Bárbara, de La Plata, María José Granatto fue premiada como la mejor jugador de este campeonato mundial.
En el encuentro de hoy y después de un inicio favorable a las holandesas, que lograron ponerse en ventaja con un gol de Imme Van der Hoek tras una serie de rebotes, Las Leoncitas se rearmaron y dieron vuelta la historia.
Las chicas argentinas consiguieron dos córners cortos en el último cuarto de hora y lograron pasar al frente con una barrida de Bianca Donati que se le coló por el segundo palo a la arquera holandesa, y luego con un disparo de Bárbara Borgia, quien capitalizó un rebote y puso el 2-1 parcial cuando ya había sonado la bocina marcando el final de los 35 minutos del primer tiempo.
Después, un gol de Paula Ortiz tras precisa asistencia de Eugenia Trinchinetti, a los 7 minutos del segundo período pareció darles tranquilidad a Las Leoncitas, que trataron de bajarle el ritmo al partido a través del control de bocha.
Pero Holanda no se entregó y achicó diferencias con un gol de Pien Sanders, quien capitalizó un rebote de un córner corto ejecutado por Frederique Matla.
El gol de las europeas le puso tensión al encuentro hasta el minuto final, cuando Agustina Gorzelany concretó un penal que le cometieron a Julieta Jankunas y aseguró el título para un equipo que promete darle más alegrías al hockey nacional.
En la víspera las argentinas habían llegado a la final venciendo también por 4 a 2 a sus pares de Australia.
